Report about multicultural week
On Wednesday 27, I went to an activity about the story written by Mark Twain. In this report I´m goint to write my point of view about the activity, things that I liked and disliked.
First, the woman who had been teacher for 30 years at the CCN talked all about bibliography to Mark Twain. I want to say that she talks perfectly. That part of the activity was amazing because she is a perfect example to see that if some people want to talk like her and put all their effort, they can talk in that way. She explained how this written fought to get his dream and crossed one part of the United States to arrive to a place, where in the future he could be a great written. She talked about Mark Twain´s entire life when he lived around The Mississippi River and all situations that he have passed in one moment of his life.
Personal I think that the presentation from the student of the CCN was not what I expected of them. I hoped more of those students, because that institute has a great reputation to teach English, and I could listen many mistakes in their pronunciation. During the presentation I couldn´t understand its main meaning which they wanted to expressed us. The sequence of the theater presentation was not clear for me, because they showed a flower, throw it and two minutes later they show it again, and the context wasn´t to show the flower again because that part of the presentation happened before that. I consider that the scenery wasn´t appropriate for a theater presentation, they don´t have the necessary things to cover it.
I liked how they taught the differences about men´s and women´s personality, and how they accepted each other. They showed how since the beginning people had problems that they had to resolve, it depends the kind of problem that they have to pass, stress increased. I could see in that activity how humans since always need to be talking to somebody. I think that there aren´t people who want to be alone since they are born until they die, in addition it can´t be that somebody doesn´t talk in all her/his life.
Overcoming obstacules
Siamese twins
My cousin Marlon is 20 and his girlfriend is 19. Almost two years ago she got pregnant, and in that moment it was difficult to accept that, because she was in high school and he was in his first year of university, so they didn´t have money to support their baby. When she was five months pregnant she went to the doctor and he did a ultrasound and told her that she would have siamese twins. Y remember that they cried very much, because didn´t have hope that the babies would be all right.
During the doctor appointment that the parents had, doctor told them that it was possible that the mother could have an abortion, but definitely they didn´t want to. The Siamese twins were born on March, 2009. Their names are M° Fernanda and M° Celeste, they were beautiful girls, they had blue eyes and white skin. The doctors told the parents that the babies would die immediately they were born. But babies were born and they lived for nine months.
On December 2009, my cousin and his girlfriend got marriage. For my family it was very happy to know that they had been marriage. They gave everything that the siamese twins needed. A week later of that, on December 23, the babies died. It was difficult for them, because they thought that the babies would grow up, but now babies are better than us, because they´re in heaven and the parents are better too, because they accepted God´s will.
First I think that when people are young, they have to take care about their love relationships, because if one does things that aren´t right to the age that we have, we exposed to have bad consequences. I think that it would be very difficult to be in that situation, because to have Siamese twins means to be always near them, and those parents did that. In spite of the discapacity those babies had, parents who love them, and gave everything that they could.

Advantages and disadvantages of living longer
There are people who have lived a long life. It is difficult for people to believe that they would be able to live too much like their grandparents. There are many factors that help have a better and longer life. On the contrary there are factors which don´t help to have a good life. People who are hundred or more years old have advantages and disadvantages to live such a long life.
Young people believe that it isn’t possible to live long. This thoughts are because today humans have a hectic life, so they can´t spend time with their families. There are many work to do in the place of their jobs. The life is more complicated every day because everything is more expensive than before, so people work extra hours. For those reasons people don´t have a good quality of life.
They sleep only a few hours. People don´t eat healthy food, on the contrary almost all of them eat fast food once or twice a week. If we talk in Costa Rica, because in the United States people have other customs and they eat this kind of food almost every day. Previously people had other kind of life. They had a peaceful life and they planted all of food that they ate and it was healthy food.
Nowadays elderly people are discriminated, because people say that they aren´t productive for the society. It means that they don´t generate money. Actually people only think about money, and if someone doesn´t work and pay everything that people want to, they dislike this in group of persons and in this case is about elderly people. In contrast there are people who help old people, there are economical help for old who can´t work and don´t have money to live. This economical help id for sick people too and obviously if they are elderly, in fact this kind of organization is an advantage for old people.
Elderly people can´t do some activities that they could do when they were young. It is difficult for them to walk if they have problems with their legs or their spine. For some of them it is difficult to take a showering themselves. It is sad to be unable to do everything for oneself , and see how there are people who want to do things that previously they could do, is gratifying. But for all of them there are nursing homes, in those places there are people who take care of elderly people.
I think that everybody can get alder and may be if our turn arrives, we want someone to take care of us. For that today we can do something to help people who need it.

Advertising influence
Communication media can influence in a good and in a bad way, it depends the way that people see the commercials and the wisdom that people have.
There are commercials which help to conserve the earth. Many people listen to this kind of message and try to change. On the contrary, there are people who don't care what happens in their own homes. For people who are trying to change the way which they usually live it's difficult to see how other individuals contaminate the environment. Coverage is being improved by some T.V channels with campaigns to conserve the Earth.
There are campaigns which have a good point of view, about familiar values, marriage and a good communication. Nowadays that kind of advertising are what is needed to correct corruption. For example one of Coca Cola advertising talks about eating in a familiar way of course drinking Coca Cola, but that it isn't the point. Today kids are being affected by familiar disintegration which is very common. Kids grow up without their parents together. Maybe it affects in their development or maybe not, if they usually see their family.
There are advertising which have subliminal messages. For example man who get dressed like woman, for kids isn't right because it confuse them. Advertising about alcohol which says that it is possible to drink liquor. It depends on the kid's wisdom, because it can be dangerous for them. Music videos have a subliminal messages too and many children are being damaged by this kinds of videos, because they show promiscuous people who drink alcohol and smoke.

My full presentation
My name is Karina Vargas Garro, I was born on December 22 in Perez Zeledon, I am 18 years old. I have to travel every week to visit my beautiful family. I live with my parents who have been married for 19 years. I have a sister, she is 15 years old and my brother is 12 years old, I am the oldest. They are studying in high school. My parents have a workshop, its name is DANACA and it stands for the names of all of their children. There they work together my mom is my father´s secretary and my dad is a mechanic, he fixes lawn mower machines and things like that.
I am studying occupational health, at ULACIT this is my first quarter in the university. Here in San Jose I live in San Pedro near to the Universidad de Costa Rica with a partner, she is from Perez Zeledon too. I like so much where I live, because is so quiet and peaceful. I hope to be able to be a great professional in a future. I have a boyfriend he is a spectacular guy, we met in high school and we have been going out together for a year with seven months. I am so glad to be with him, he studies in the same university where I study.
I love go to the beach and to be in a place where the sun doesn´t touch me because my skin color is a little dark. I like to sleep a lot, I like to eat because one has to thank God because He lets us choose the best road and to be with healthy. I dislike do exercises although I like to walk slowly on the street. I like spend time with my family, my boyfriend and myself. I like go to the cinema and sometimes just go out.
